April's Auction Recap

In April's auction, a diverse range of specialist items took center stage, including a captivating collection of art pieces, limited edition prints, camera equipment, and fly fishing gear. However, it was not just the specialized lots that shone, as several other exceptional items fetched remarkable prices for our sellers.

Within the realm of gold and jewelry, stand-out pieces included a vintage Cherry Bakelite necklace featuring a vintage clasp, selling for a commendable £950. An elegant 9ct Yellow Gold Gate bracelet adorned with alternate Garnet and Citrine gemstones fetched a hammer price of £520, while a substantial 9ct Rose Gold link bracelet weighing 19.4g and measuring 8 inches long closed at £350. An exquisite 18ct Yellow Gold Art Deco ring, showcasing a dazzling central Emerald surrounded by Diamonds, garnered £620.

Teddy bears emerged as a surprise hit, with bids soaring for items such as a vintage 18-inch Merrythought bear and another antique teddy bear, both fetching £180. Not to be outdone, a novelty coffee table featuring an upside-down bear supporting a glass top fetched an impressive £230.

In the realm of ceramics and glassware, collectors showed strong interest, particularly in a Lorna Bailey Art Deco figurine depicting a seated little girl in a sun hat, which sold for £550. The Minton majolica oyster platter dating back to c.1870 adorned with the figures of Juno, Neptune, Mercury, and Selene fetched £210. Meanwhile, a vintage tea set comprising over 50 hand-painted pink Chrysanthemum-adorned pieces edged in gold by Hammersley and Co commanded an astonishing £700 at the hammer. Lastly, an intriguing Bohemian uranium glass vase featuring a Ruby cut to amber design, standing 24cm tall, in addition to an art glass bowl, closed at £160.

In silver and collectables, there were several surprising results. Notably, the 15 assorted vintage pocket knives fetched £160, while a selection of antique Georgian Irish Silver Forks with Dublin Hallmarks and armorial crests realized £500. Similarly, Georgian Irish Silver Spoons saw a strong bidding competition, closing at £400.

A highlight of the auction was the ceremonial carpet used by Her Majesty the Queen during the opening of the Humber Bridge in 1981, which sold for £230.

The art section also performed well, an original watercolour and acrylic painting of Rostov Kremlin by Anatol Krasnyansky dated 1996 fetched £1,200. While a large signed limited edition print 'Girls in a Taxi' by Beryl Cook reached £440, with similar Beryl Cook prints closing around £200.

The coins and stamps category had its share of success, with an album of UK stamps from 1840 to the 1930s, including iconic pieces like the Penny Black and Twopenny Blue, closing at £420. Additionally, a selection of Pre-1946 Silver UK Half Crowns and other UK Silver Coins achieved £320 at the fall of the hammer.

Among the diverse lots, standouts included a Bowmen live steam O gauge carriage coach that closed at £200, and an Oak X framed chair with carved decoration and an armorial crest that saw bidding reach £110. The camera and fly fishing gear lots were also popular, with most items selling for around £100 each.

April's auction showcased a wealth of remarkable items that captivated bidders and achieved standout results for our clients.
