Toys, gold coins, a rebellion and The Jungle book.

It’s that pre-auction time again, and we are thrilled to present the exciting catalogue for our upcoming auction! This event features an impressive array of nearly 1,500 lots spread across two packed days. Whether you're a dedicated collector or simply exploring, there is certainly something for everyone.

Our toy and collectible section is particularly noteworthy, featuring items that span from the 1950s to today. The variety is astounding, encapsulating beloved franchises such as Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, Babylon 5, The Simpsons, Thundercats, and Ghostbusters, among many others. Moreover, our collection includes a substantial assortment of model trains, tracks, and scenery, alongside die-cast vehicles, including cars, tractors, Scalextric, and vintage Tonka trucks. Not to be missed is our selection of vintage 1960s tin toys, highlighted by the Yonezawa NASA M27 Moon Explorer with Rocket and a Horikawa Japanese Gear Front Metal Robot, both retaining their original packaging.

In keeping with our tradition of offering unique items, we will showcase exquisite pieces of uranium glass, encompassing stunning Art Deco designs alongside Czech, Sowerby, and Murano collectibles. A particular highlight this auction will be the Welz Victorian Uranium custard glass vase in pink and ivory, displayed in our new UV cabinet during the viewing day.

Our ceramic offerings are equally impressive, featuring a variety of figurines and vases. A standout item is the Lorna Bailey Sgt. Pepper's Beatles bust, marked as 1 of 1 and initialed JM—a must-have for both Lorna Bailey and Beatles enthusiasts.

As always, we have a remarkable selection of gold, silver, and jewelry lots. Highlights include a 1996 1/4 Oz Krugerrand coin and a 1898 Queen Victoria Full Sovereign, both in excellent condition. Additionally, we present an Omega Deville Prestige Gents wristwatch that remains in superb condition, complete with original packaging and papers, possibly never worn!

One of the most remarkable collections we've received this month at Potters Auction Saleroom is a vast array of items from early 1900s China. This extensive lot features an intriguing mix of documents, stamps, coins, and collectibles. However, the standout pieces are undoubtedly the albums filled with photographs, postcards, and images from the tumultuous period of the 1899 to 1901 Chinese Boxer Rebellion and its aftermath.

Among these, a particularly noteworthy album contains original photographs chronicling the life of a family of Christian missionaries in China during this time. These images capture everyday life, as well as harrowing scenes of trials, torture, and executions. Additionally, the collection includes striking photographs from Egypt and Baghdad, broadening the historical context of this compilation. Another exciting lot includes three photo albums documenting life as Christians in China, showcasing local magistrates and officials, alongside the construction of a school. These albums provide a rare glimpse into a pivotal time in history shaped by cultural interactions and significant social changes. We also have two additional albums that date back to the late 1800s, further investigating the experiences of Christian missionaries in China, including images of refugee boats, schools, and local officials. For those who are curious to delve deeper into these fascinating albums, Paul has documented our findings and insights in a two-part discussion available on YouTube.

In addition to the unique collectibles, we are excited to offer a stunning folio by Maurice and Edward Detmold, featuring illustrations from Rudyard Kipling’s 1903 edition of The Jungle Book. This piece includes sixteen exquisite, large-scale, mounted colored plates, each accompanied by a caption leaf, and is from the personal library of Sir George White, 1st Baronet (1854–1916).

Lastly, our upcoming auction features an excellent selection of furniture, including exceptional Mid-Century Modern pieces from renowned makers such as Nathan, Austinsuite, Wrighton, G Plan, and more. We are also proud to present unique pine furniture and a large Irish wake table, rounding out a diverse offering that caters to various tastes.

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore these impressive lots at our next auction! Visitors are encouraged to join us for our viewing day on Wednesday, June 4th.

This brief overview only begins to highlight the extraordinary lots we have in store for this auction. Stay tuned for much more, as we prepare for our next auction at the end of April. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing these incredible pieces with our valued collectors and enthusiasts.
